A large fire broke out in the CFB Shilo Range and Training Area (RTA) late Friday (May 14, 2021) and is still burning. By Monday morning, approximately 255 hectares had been burned. Winds on Monday pushed the fire back into the eastern portion of the Shilo RTA where it jumped into the Douglas Marsh and an area of the RTA that is difficult to access. In 24 hours the area burned had increased to 15,000 hectares and, so far, has been mostly contained within the RTA.
