"Give the Gift That Keeps On Giving"
* A way to say Thank You for the past, and a means of sharing in the future of Glenboro and Area.*
THE FOUNDATION:
The Glenboro and Area Foundation Inc. is a registered community fund established in 1987 to support education and health, recreation and culture, agriculture and religion, for all ages in Glenboro and area.
THE ENDOWMENT FUND:
The Endowment Fund, made up of designated and undesignated monies, is a permanent pool of capital made up of donations and bequests, carefully invested to provide the best possible interest which in turn is awarded annually back into the community. In 1998 the Glenboro Foundation entered into an agreement with The Winnipeg Foundation whereby the contributions of The Glenboro Area Foundation Inc. will be transferred to The Glenboro Area Foundation Managed Fund, which includes the John and Vesta Scott Memorial Fund, and the Glenboro Hospital Memorial Fund under the Winnipeg Foundation. The Winnipeg Foundation will hold and invest the monies on behalf of the Glenboro Area Foundation Inc. and will provide endowment income to support the community of the Glenboro Area.
THE ADMINISTRATION:
The Fund is administered by a Board of Directors made up of the Mayor and one councillor of the Village of Glenboro, the Reeve and one councillor of the R.M. of South Cypress, as well as five appointed members and the Secretary-Treasurer. All Board positions are voluntary. The Board meets at least three times a year at the call of the chariman.
THE MONEY:
The money invested in the Fund is never spent. Only the interest earned by the investments is available for disbursement. A donation to the fund in an investment in the future of the community.
INVESTMENT GRANTS:
To date, donations and bequests and including the Glenboro Hospital Memorial Fund have grown to exceed $135,000.00. The first grants were made in 1992 when Minor Sports, Sara’s Playground and the Patricia Cairn were the recipients. Since then, grants have been awarded to Glenboro School Student of the Year (annual scholarship), Gaiety Theatre, the United Church, Glenboro Hospital and Personal Care Home, Friends of Spruce Woods, the Arena, St. Stephens Anglican Church and Rectory, Glenboro Trail Development of the Trans Canada Trail, Burrough of the Gleann Museum, Cypress River Memorial Hall, Glenboro School and Dugout Repair at the Ball Diamond; a total in excess of $22,000.
